Bored? Do your nails!

It was the beginning of autumn when I made these nails, the weather was kind'a gloomy to go out so I stayed indoors and got myself busy.  There is nothing complicated about this, just have the patience a scotch tape, a pair of scissors, some toothpicks (if you don't have a dotting tool), a drinking straw and you're good to go! With using the scotch tape, you can have fun and even make your own designs/shapes.  Using scotch tapes amazingly make a very neat finish and to those who don't know the trick it looks so difficult to recreate, you'd appear like an expert..haha

Here's how I did the art on my right hand:
Thumb - I used a toothpick on this one.
Index finger - I used the good old drinking straw, and just overlapped the circles.
Middle finger - the powerful scotch tape, look how neat it is!!
Ring finger - you can always rely on the toothpick! ;)
Little finger - another scotch tape art product!

I did pretty much the same thing on my left hand except that I used the drinking straw on the thumb instead of the toothpick.

And on this last one I used a scotch tape on the ring finger and dotted my thumb with a toothpick.

How I Got Hooked With Nail-Art?

So, how can a self-confessed inartistic person end up being hooked with nail-art?  Well, thanks to the internet, social media to be more specific.  Since I was already into this love relationship with my nails starting my teen years, it didn't take so long for me to actually tell myself I can give it a try whenever I see beautiful nails pinned on Pinterest or shared on Instagram and Facebook (well, the easy-looking ones, that's all!).  Nail-art is actually a strong word for me since I don't consider myself an artist, I'm just someone who has the patience and the stable hands for it!  It became a sort of stress-reliever.

This was my very first attempt in recreating a design that I saw on a Youtube video tutorial.  The technique is called water marbling.  I decided to do this because the materials needed were all handy: a glass of room temperature water, q-tips or cotton buds, nail polish remover and the nail polishes that you'd like to combine together, preferably the bright-colored ones.  It was tricky but very interesting, I had so much fun doing it though I rarely do this technique now because I actually find it quite laborious.  I was so happy to have stumbled upon the video tutorial that I followed, Sara, the lovely and very energetic girl who did the tutorial clearly explained the whole process without making it boring.  Click and watch her video that I linked bellow and you might want to give it a try yourself!

SaraBeautyCorner's water marble tutorial actually got me hooked into her Youtube channel, thus, prompting me to follow her other nail art tutorials.  This one here is a very simple yet happy design made using the help of a drinking straw.  You recycle and get beautiful nails, not bad for a reward, eh?

And yes, of course this one!  How can I skip this beautiful sunset design?  This is totally perfect for summer, tropical vacation or an everyday nail if you're a lucky island girl like me. ^_^

Nail Blogging

I remember always admiring the beautiful, polished nails of my mother as a little girl.  As soon as I was finally grown enough to be permitted having my nails done, I started enjoying doing it myself but I  eventually stopped when I was working.  Since it requires a lot of time, it was more convenient then to just drop by at my favorite nail salon after work or on my rest day.  But when I left my job and became a stay home wife I finally got the time I needed to get back to this beautiful, artistic hobby.  I am no professional, the techniques I use are very basic, I recreate designs that I find online and I don't have a lot of fancy nail polishes nor a good quality camera but I still decided to go ahead and humbly share them to the world to prove that we don't need to be professional or to spend a lot of money to be able to do our nails decently, we just need patience and passion.

I'm not really artistic by nature, that's with all due honesty but it doesn't stop me from being able to do my nails beautifully.  I often do online research on a certain design that I want and try to recreate it the best way I can.  Whenever I post something that I recreated from someone, I'll definitely link the video or website on my post.

Here are my first few simple designs (including plane ones):
